Truths and Lies of Internet Marketing

A long time ago you decided that working all the hours God sends every week and being away from your family just has to be wrong. You know what? It is. There is a way to right this wrong and it has to do with the Internet. But you knew that already. So what is the next step?

You have been looking online in the search engines and maybe in the newsgroups and you have seen plenty of opportunities. Most of the hype you read sounds much too good to be true and most of it is. However, there are some real opportunities out there. You just have to know where to look. Don't follow the other sheep, work it out for yourself.

Where do you look? Who holds the keys to this bountiful virtual treasure chest? Do you have a chance at success?

From here on in we'll confirm some truths and dispel some lies which you'll find all over the place online.

Lie: I can earn amazing sums of money online really quick. I can quit the 9-5 within weeks!

Truth: Pure hype reigns supreme on the Internet. The claims of huge downlines, 6 figure incomes overnight and massive mailing lists with no effort are complete drivel. Nothing is easy to make a go of and online it's no different. It's possibly even harder to make your fortune online since the rules are always changing. Staying on top of and driving these changes is where your success will come from.

Lie: Working your online business is easier than working the 9-5.

Truth: Making a true success of your online business is, more often than not, a whole lot harder. You are directly responsible for the amount of money you put in the bank at the end of the month. You will need excellent time management skills and organizational skills. Possibly the hardest thing is the motivation. To get up every day and motivate yourself to switch the computer on, knowing you have to get down to some hard work can be very tough some days.

Lie: My time is my own. I can work whenever.

Truth: Your time is your most precious commodity. There are daily demands on your time from your family and the business of everyday living. Real life carries on regardless of whether you have a spreadsheet to prepare or not. Managing your time actually becomes a delicate balancing act. You cannot ignore your family if you're working at home - and anyway, one of the reasons you wanted to work at home was to spend more time with the family, right?

Lie: My children will enjoy the extra time I can spend with them.

Truth: Still with this time thing. Yes your kids will be happier to see you more around the place but they will also become confused as to why you can't play with them more and may even come to resent this. The delicate balancing act is indeed a thin tight-rope walk and you've got to be a masterful acrobat to pull it off. It can be done however and this shouldn't put you off.

Lie: Build it and they will come.

Truth: Whilst this may have been true in the very early days of the Internet with the most basic of search engines driving traffic, these days nothing could be further from the truth. Building your website and getting it online puts you on the first rung of the ladder. Getting enough traffic to make your website profitable is your next goal. There are many places online which claim to be able to do this for you, only 2-3% of these places will be worth your time.

Lie: The Internet is just one big playground for scammers.

Truth: The Internet, with it's anonymity, is indeed a fertile breeding ground for the more unscrupulous among us. While scammers get all the press there are plenty of real people like you making some nice piles of coin from the Internet perfectly legally. The information revolution is upon us and you better get onboard.

Lie: All my friends and family will want to join me.

Truth: Your friends and family will think you're completely mad. While you may find one or two people who're open to your dreams and visions, most will simply ridicule you so be ready for that. They may not talk about you openly but they will think you're wasting your time. Ignore them and prove them wrong. You can do it. Success is sweet.

At the final analysis, if you want to work at home on the Internet, become truly financially and spiritually free then the odds are not stacked in your favour. This being said, with the fire of determination burning inside you, with the strong desire to enjoy a life of no money worries and more quality time with your family then you will succeed. It takes time, effort and hard choices but you can do it.

Just do one thing every day to improve your position and that's all it takes.

Let The Fun Begin - The Web Project - Part 1

Here's a little HYPE of our own. Putting all the pieces of the puzzle together I decided to try a web site of my own. Now, what to sell. Since I don't have a product and trying to find a supplier with a good product to mark up is extremely competitive with a very little profit margin so I have decided on "Advertising Space".

This is one of the HOT items that so many of the HYPE programs are recommending and since it is relatively easy to set up and FREE, I decided that would be the goal. I could use Google AdSense or Amazon's referral program or any of a dozen others to direct customers to an advertised site and get a small commission for the service. Sounds easy huh? Well people are not going to magically appear at your site, why would they, what are you going to use to attract people to your site? Oh yeah WHAT site, we haven't even covered where your "site" is going to be.

This is where blogs such as this come in handy. There are several (like this one, blogger) that are free to set up and host. You will have your own space to pick your topic and start blogging.
Your topic could be anything that interests you. The idea is to create interest so people will want to read your articles. Once you have a following of readers you have an audience and are ready to start selling your advertising space, more on that topic a little later, for now getting a blog site with some good topics started is a priority.

Putting All The Pieces Together

Been a busy week. Over the past few weeks I have been researching all the HYPE of online marketing, reading about building web pages, domain names, hosing accounts, referrals, affiliate programs etc.etc......

I can tell you first hand this is not an easy undertaking and this is not a get rich quick scheme as promised by all the marketing that every program promises. Everything takes research and time. Just getting the big search engines to notice your web page or blog takes weeks at least unless your willing to spend a lot of money paying for advertising with a program like adwords.

Did anyone read the PDF file I posted about "Great Information About Starting A Web Page"? I figured I would put this one to the test and see what happens.

Ok, Finally some good news. While lurking around the web for some ideas on starting a web page. I came accross this PDF file and decided to share it here. Lots of good information on starting a web page from the ground up. There are so many factors to consider before you even get started that I never even realized. This book puts things into perspective so you can start doing things the right way from step 1.

Have you ever tried to assemble a bicycle before reading the instructions? Anyone who has knows full well that eventually you have to go back and read them only to find you wasted 2 hours putting the rear wheel on backwards. This is a free download so you have nothing to loose by spending a few minutes (hours) reading.

Marketing HYPE and How You Get Hooked

Here is an example of how they market hype to us. I have set up an account with click bank. This is a store house for most of the marketing that you probably have seen flooding into your mail box and popping up in your browser windows.

A quick search on Google for Internet Marketing or Work From Home or even Paid Surveys Online will pull up hundreds of links to pages. Someone most likely paid Google with a program called Adwords to list their advertisement, then you clicked on that link and were taken to a page just like the one in the link I provided below.

Now, if you actually buy into the program they get a BIG FAT kick back. Click the link below to see if you recognize a page like this. It's an advertisement SCREAMING BUY ME!

I know you must have seen this one called "The Rich Jerk". This one is a new take on the scheme. It's written in a slightly snotty and offensive way almost daring you NOT to sign up with him. I included it here cause its actually kinda funny to read.

Have you ever been sucked in by one of these money making secrets? Well here's a secret I'm giving away for free. Up to 75% of what you paid for their "Secret System" was paid out as a commission. If you paid $40 for the information then as much as $30 was given to the guy who sent you to that web page or sent you that email that got you to click on their link.

Bottom line is it's not too hard to put the BIG pieces of this marketing puzzle together. If I can do it in a resonable amount of time then it sure aint rocket science.

Free Store and My Dollar Store - Sucks!

Another Rip off! Free Store and My Dollar Store. I explored Free Store and found no way to direct customers to the site. The “Web Site” they set up for you directs you to a page marketing their service first and foremost. As far as MyDollarStore.com, I found a few users online that have set up their own stores only to find very limited selection and mostly just junk that I can’t imagine anyone would want to buy. To top it off they only pay .25 PER ORDER! Plus you pay them $39.99 a month. Soooooooo, how many sales of cheap dollar crap will you have to sell to break even.

This whole set up smells like a site that pushes Affiliate marketing. You must sell someone else the PROGRAM of setting up their own dollar store to get paid a commision. It looks like another MLM marketing scheme.

I paid these guys 34.95 for access to their list of 700 companies who pay for people to take surveys online. Below is a list of some of their hype!

Participate in Focus Groups - Get Paid up to $150 per hour
Try new products and paid $10 to $25 or even more (Keep the products FREE!)

Preview new movie trailers and get paid anywhere from $10 to $25 per hour.
Get paid to take surveys offline and get paid $5 to $95 per hour
Get Paid $10 to $40 per hour To Shop and Eat!
Get Paid $10 to $50 To Set Appointments online!
Get Paid To Travel - Earn $100’s each month just for traveling!

What you get is a web page with hundreds of OTHER web sites that tell you exactly the same thing. They have a list of their top 3 or 4 favorites that they say will pay big for you taking surveys. I tried them and guess how much CASH I made. ZERO, that’s right, all of these “Companies” are a smoke screen for one thing. The one thing they want from you is your valid email address so they can sell it to a list company for profit. That list company turns around and sells their list of validated email address to hundreds of other scam artists who continually fill your email box with more of the same hype of getting rich quick. Anyone who has filled out even one survey online can expect to find a dozen more offers in their email within a few days.

First Post just to see how this blog thing works. I am now officially an old fart with too much time on my hands. I plan to see how much of this working at home and making millions of dollars so "I CAN LIVE THE GOOD LIFE" like every damm email has promised me is true or a load of BS.
